Under the Weather

About the “Under the Weather” project

Why this project?

Whether it is too hot, cold or wet, it’s hard to escape the weather if you don’t have a home. In WA, we lag behind some other states and countries in having government policies, protocols and measures to support people who are experiencing homelessness during heatwaves or periods of severe cold or wet weather.

The Under the Weather project aimed to capture the experiences and impacts of weather from people who were homeless and services they engaged with. We also gathered examples of ways that individuals and services tried to reduce the impacts of climate exposure. Learnings and findings are being used to advocate for more support options in WA, to reduce the impacts of weather on people who are homeless in this state.

Who was involved? The Home2Health team developed this project in collaboration with the Mandurah-Kwinana-Rockingham homelessness improvement team and NSW collaborators (City of Sydney, University of Sydney, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Homeless Service). We also had a lived experience advisor involved in all aspects of the project.
