Under the Weather
About the “Under the Weather” project
Why this project?
Whether it is hot, cold or wet, it is hard to escape the weather if you don’t have a home. In WA we lag behind some other states and other countries in having government policies, protocols and measures to support people who are experiencing homelessness during heatwaves or periods of severe cold or wet weather.
The Under the Weather project aims to capture the experiences and impacts of weather from people who are homeless and services they engage with. We are also gathering examples of ways that individuals and services currently try to reduce the impacts of climate exposure. Learnings and findings will be used to advocate for more support options in WA to reduce the impacts of weather on people who are homeless in this state.
Who is involved? The Home2Health team has developed this project in collaboration with the Mandurah-Kwinana-Rockingham homelessness improvement team and NSW collaborators (City of Sydney, University of Sydney, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Homeless Service). We also have a lived experience advisor involved in all aspects of the project.
What have we been doing so far?

Gathering insights from people experiencing homelessness via survey and ‘graffiti wall’ at Homelessness week events and via homelessness engagement hubs.
Short survey with service providers - what are they observing about winter weather impacts and what are some solutions?
